據統計，中國約有600萬名因勞動致病的塵肺病人。大章是其中一位末期患者，身體江河日下，每一次苟延殘喘的呼吸，都是他對生命發出的絕望呼喊。
「我最多能活兩個晚上。」導演李維走進大章在陝西山區的家，以鏡頭直面大章臥病在床的煎熬，凝視社會最昏暗、最痛苦的角落，及周遭一切——三名懵懂的孩子、照料大章起居的老父母、不願收費的醫生、共同見證悲劇的鄰居⋯⋯苦難體現於這些人的平常生活。
Residing in the beautiful and peaceful mountains of Southwest China praised by generations of poets, three sisters and brothers’ lives are however trapped by the deadly pneumoconiosis. The entire family is stuck in this seemingly endless suffering while watching their father silently vanish from the world.
The film revolves around Dazhang who, because of his illness, is unable to breathe properly. The middle-aged Dazhang doesn’t want his life to end, but his situation seems hopeless. He places all of his hopes on the next generation, but his children haven’t even grasped what the meaning of “future” is.
