周浩早期擔任攝影記者時已特別關注中國城市發展與民工生態，他的首部紀錄片《厚街》聚焦2002年的東莞，在那裡鞋廠和家具廠多如雨後春筍，「厚街」成了民工與流氓的聚腳地。為了謀生，二房東、妓女、扒手、賭博、假證、黑市診所等產業鏈應運而生，一條街便是一個江湖。
本片貼身記錄民工的邊緣生活，在一幢幢狹小的出租屋，每個租客都演繹着生存的艱難，在罅隙中喘息，又萌生着希望。或許每個燈紅酒綠的城市，都有一條這樣的「厚街」。
When Zhou Hao was a photojournalist in his earlier life, he paid particular attention to the urban development and the life of migrant workers in China. His first documentary, Houjie Township, was made in Dongguan in 2002, where numerous shoe and furniture factories sprang up. Houjie has become a gathering place for migrant workers and hooligans, with chains of subleasing, prostitution, pickpocketing, gambling, certification forging and black-market clinics coming into being as people try to make a living. This street alone is an underworld.
This documentary closely follows the marginal life of migrant workers. In small rental apartments, each tenant has their own struggles in life as they search for a breathing space and hopes amid predicament. Perhaps in every bustling city, there is a street like Houjie.
